Mercy
As I watched her trying to blink away the tears still threatening to spill, my heart twisted. She pulled her mouth into a cheeky grin, smiling at me as if there wasn’t a spreading hole eating at her insides. She was so brave, so strong. She would never know how much her strength made any of this bearable enough for me to keep myself together, to pull those pieces of myself begging to shatter even further back into my aching soul. She was here. I would keep her safe, I would keep them all safe.
I stepped closer towards her, my own body seeking her warmth, like a beacon of light. She was my everything. How had I gotten so lucky? My fingers trailed over her cheek, trying to memorise the feel of her skin. She closed her eyes, her own small hands holding my larger one firmly against her cheek. Those tears she held at bay finally fell, ignoring her fight to hold them close. I breathed in deep, memorising the smell of honeysuckle that seemed to always linger on her skin. My other hand came up to her hair, delighting in the feel of the soft ringlets of sun gliding mercifully through my fingers. She sighed, a sound so full of anguish. An angel’s voice shouldn’t know that forlorn tune.
My forehead rested against hers, trying desperately to breath more of her in, to imprint her scent permanently in my brain. I heard a choked sob escape her trembling lips before she pulled her body hard against mine, pushing her mouth to my lips. I could taste her sorrow as her tongue danced with mine between her sobs. I took her melancholy, sucking greedily at it, pulling her impossibly closer. I wanted to be more than close, I wanted to be one. One soul, one entity… then maybe I could carry her with me.
Our bodies moved in sync, somehow staying together as our clothes dropped like fallen snow around us. We made a nest in the discarded garments, her shuddering body gripping mine as I pressed my burning flesh against every inch of hers. We were both burning together, our bodies like the sun as they exploded in fire. My mouth found her breasts, moving my scorching tongue over each nipple, feeling the little pink nubs harden at my touch. I centred myself before finally plunging my pulsing member into her burning depths, feeling her warmth wet and waiting. We moaned in unison, our voices, our breaths, each maddening heartbeat all coming together to create the chorus of our love. We were one.
She moaned in my arms, scratching at my skin in delicious pricks of pain as I drove into her over and over, growling in her golden hair as I pumped inside of her, claiming her as she had claimed me. Before we had even met my soul belonged to her. Her soft cries once filled with that maddening sorrow were now soaked in pleasure. She called my name over and over again, clutching at me as if trying to imprison me inside her soul. Didn’t she know? I was already there.
I ground into her harder as she urged me on with her hips, her own heat building inside of her core. She screamed my name, fingernails sinking possessively into my flesh as she convulsed underneath me, ripples of her pleasure taking her shuddering body as she became undone in my arms. The feel of her core clutching around my own plunging flesh pushed me to my own end, my own explosion tightening before finally releasing into an all-encompassing burst that had me roaring her name before I finally collapsed on top of her.
We lay there like that for a time, her body finally surrendering into a deep slumber. I smiled, brushing away the stray hairs still sticking to her sweat covered forehead. She hadn’t slept properly since I had been drafted. I had almost gotten used to those dark circles claiming the space under her eyes. She had such pretty eyes too, a mournful grey that had always reminded me of a coming storm. I sighed, knowing that this would be the last time I would listen to the delicate lullaby that was each soft breath.
I carefully lifted myself off her, ensuring not to wake her as I moved. I pulled on the new uniform, casting one last look to the woman who held my heart.
“I love you, my Mercy.”
