Three on the Couch

it started the same way it always does. we were on the couch, all three of us, movie on, nobody watching it. josie was in the middle and i could already feel the whole thing shifting the way it does. like the air gets a little heavier and everybody’s pretending they’re fine. josh had his hand on her thigh and she kept glancing at me and i kept glancing at him and nobody said anything for like fifteen minutes until i just put my legs in josie’s lap and she laughed and that broke whatever spell we were under
